APS is a newly founded company and as such has undertaken limited projects to date. The principal members of APS are however highly experienced and have undertaken numerous significant projects within the transportation industry over the past 2 decades.

The projects listed below are projects where the principals of APS have undertaken senior management and design roles.

St Helena International Airport, St Helena, 2013 - 2016

Client: 
DFID UK Government

Description: 
Design, build and operate contract for the construction of a new airport on St Helena Island. Major works include 27,000 m² of concrete paving, 8 million m³ of rock fill, a 4,000 m² airport terminal, and 6 million litre bulk fuel installation. During the construction process over 70,000 tons of goods and equipment were shipped from Walvis Bay to St Helena.

Rebuilding of Waterkloof Air Force Base | Gauteng, South Africa, 2006 - 2013

Client: 
Department of Public Works

Description: 
The airport was upgraded to international standards for continued future operational use for a period of 30 years. The design included all airside movement areas and services including a new hangar facility, Air Traffic Control Tower and Fire Station. The geotechnical design included dynamic compaction and the construction of the largest fully instrumented raft foundations in Africa to mitigate dolomitic soil conditions and sinkhole formation under the runways.

OR Tambo International Airport - Pavement Rehabilitation of Selected Aprons and Taxiways | South Africa, 2013

Client: 
Airports Company South Africa

Description: 
The project included the repairs and rehabilitation of the various aprons and taxiways at OR Tambo International Airport. The apron design varied from Code C to F aircraft stands to accommodate large wide-bodied aircraft including the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380. The works included improvements to the taxiway geometry and the installation of lighting systems and drainage structures. Flexible pavement design utilised modified binders and specific aggregate gradation to accommodate the excessive shear stresses.

Waterkloof Air Force Base - Airbus A400M Strategic Airlift Facility | Gauteng, South Africa, 2006 - 2013

Client: 
Department of Public Works

Description: 
The project brief was for the development of the complete squadron facilities and hangars, aprons and taxiways for the Airbus A400M Strategic Airlift Facility. The project included the design, tender documentation, project management and supervision of the construction of 2 main maintenance hangars, 2 minor maintenance hangars and 4 storage hangars. Each hangar measured 65m length x 65m width x 24m height. The design included the provision of logistics, operations and maintenance buildings for the new squadron.

Sikhuphe International Airport - Project Management | Swaziland, 2010 - 2013

Client: 
Swaziland Ministry of Economic Planning and Development

Description: 
The project scope was the  overall project management of the construction of the new airport. Works included all airside pavements, terminal, fuel facilities, VVIP facilities, ICAO critical buildings and Air Traffic Control Tower. The airport was built over a 4-year period by 4 main contractors assisted by 5 consultants. Activities undertaken directly included overall project management and pavement design review.

Conceptual Design of the Relocation of Tete International Airport | Tete, Mozambique, 2014 - 2015

Client: 
Rio Tinto

Description: 
The project scope was for the conceptual design of the relocation of Tete International Airport. Facilities to be relocated included all airside facilities with extensions to runway and taxiways to accommodate Code D aircraft. Landside facilities included all bulk services, road access, new passenger terminals, ICAO critical buildings and parking facilities.

N3 Toll Road – Independent Engineers | Free State/Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, 2003 - 2013

Client: 
Toll Company/South African National Roads Agency

Description: 
Independent Engineer representing both the Concessionaire and SANRAL to assist as independent advisors on the road during the concession period. Scope of services extended to all aspects of civil engineering but predominantly focuses on the maintenance and upgrading of the N3 road infrastructure and review of the toll model for the 25-year duration of the toll road contract.

FEL-2 Ore Line Expansion Project| Northern Cape, South Africa, 2010 - 2011

Client: 
Various Mining Houses

Description: 
The project scope entailed the expansion of the Northern Cape-Saldanha Bay ore export channel beyond the current contract capacity of 60 Mtpa, to accommodate both iron-ore and manganese ore commodities - ranging from 79 Mtpa to 148 Mtpa. The design incorporated 13 grades of iron-ore and 30 grades of manganese ore. The study included the development of optimal solutions for both the rail network upgrade as well as the Port and Bulk Handling Material. It furthermore included the development of a designated Manganese Terminal at Saldanha Bay.

Construction of Redhouse Chelsea Interchange | Eastern Cape, South Africa, 2014 - 2015

Client: 
South African National Roads Agency

Description: 
Construction of New Interchange to facilitate access from the national road network to the adjacent community and developments including a new shopping mall. Works included the construction of 5 major bridges, frontage roads, access roads, pedestrian facilities and associated services. Activities undertaken were senior level project and construction management.
